Prep: 20 minsCook: 50 minsTotal: 80 minsYield: 8 slices
Ingredients
- 6 medium apples, peeled and sliced
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 9-inch pie crusts (homemade or store-bought)
- 1 tbsp butter, diced
Instructions
- Make the filling. Toss the sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla until evenly coated.
- Assemble the pie. Heat the oven to 190°C / 375°F. Fit one crust into a 9-inch pie plate, add the filling, dot with butter, and cover with the second crust.
- Seal and vent. Trim and crimp the edges. Cut several vents in the top so steam can escape.
- Bake. Bake for 45–55 minutes, until the crust is deeply golden and the filling bubbles through the vents. Shield the edges if they brown early.
- Cool. Rest for at least 30 minutes before slicing so the juices thicken and settle.
